This weekend I wandered out to south Boston with Sarah to see Tara Donovan’s show at the ICA. All I can say is that Tara’s art is freaking sweet. She takes everyday objects and goes off the deep end with repetition. Her installations are amazing and they trick the senses.

Its interesting how she creates something so amazing with simple everyday objects. It makes me think of how we as designers create logos and designs out of simple words and images.

Styrofoam Cups

Kim Rugg

This is another artist that I have recently been inspired by. I have not seen her art for myself, but I still find it fascinating. Kim Rugg takes newspapers, cuts them up and rearranges every single character in alphabetical order in their respective articles and headlines. How crazy and obsessive compulsive is that? It makes you look at everyday text in a different way!

Korean artist Yong Ho Ji makes sculptures from recycled tires. His work ranges in form from animal, to human, to some combination of both, evoking the ancient Egyptian tradition of creating mythological sculptures that are half-human and half-animal. Ji calls his variations “mutants” to refer to both their hybrid forms and the mutation of media that their creation requires. Sizes vary from an eleven-inch-high dog, to a wild goat with horns that is five-feet-tall to a 10-foot-long Hammerhead shark.

Simply amazing!

So its official. Sarah and I are moving to Boston. We should find out soon (todayish) if we get the apartment we wanted, which is in a SWEET location.

Hopefully I’ll find a job out there soon. But until then I will try to remain calm, amidst so much uncertainty and excitement.

Sarah will be going to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA), where she will continue to make amazing art.

Trees are good for something other than paper (and growing money)!
A series of drawings produced using drawing implements attached to the tips of tree branches, the wind’s effects on the tree, recorded on paper. Like signatures each drawing reveals the different qualities and characteristics of each tree.
