information design

Yesterday during the wee hours of the morning I started working on an info graphic about the structure of a web page. I was broadcasting my illustration process live via ustream.tv . A few people joined to watch and gave me their thoughts on the spot. Quite an interesting experiment! I have to say that I’m fascinated with screen casting and instantaneous-ness (is that of word?) of the internet.

Click more to watch the video (30 mins) and see a few screen shots of the progression of the design.

The illustrative instructions on my chopsticks made me laugh the other day. Since there are no words I felt the need to add my take on what they illustrations were telling me to do. This is just a joke. I repeat, this is just a joke. If you incur any harm from using chopsticks with my humorous instructions, i am not legally responsible.

Enjoy

1. Grab a chopstick

2. Grab another chopstick while you are at it since you will need two

3. Attempt to pick up un-identified food nugget/object*

*Note - you should probably not eat un-identified food nuggets and/or objects. Perhaps it might be better to go for a wonton, or a crab ragoon.

I finally got around to processing my August 2008 banana and coffee data. This time I decided to play with fusion charts - a flash & xml based chart thing-a-ma-bob. Pretty sweet and easy to edit. Little flash widgets like this are awesome because you can just edit the xml file without even touching the flash (swf) file. This means no republishing! Also - I could see this being used with a CMS to dynamically change the values in the xml file.

Question For My Readers:

Do you guys have any suggestions on ways to display data on the web? IF you do please leave a comment and let me know! Thanks!

I posted a while ago about some interesting info graphics that had some interesting statistics on the upcomming US election. Every Moment Now simplifys things and shows the number of article refrences by day of the two major party candidates. Found via the lovely swissmiss!

Yay statistics. I think this is slowly turning into an obsession. Not only do I tweet a lot, but now I have access to color-coded visualizations of my tweets! woo! :) Anyone else out there an info-graphic junkie?
