Niki- I really dig your blog and plan on keeping up with your updates. I know EXACTLY what you mean with this blog post. It's so easy to get whisked away by digital communities and not pay attention the "real world." In my experience, people who you "meet" online are more insightful and generally more friendly than those who you'll meet @ a networking event. However, both are absolutely vital to expanding your network of business contacts.

The Bocoup Loft in South Boston: I saw a fantastic talk on webfonts there a month or few back, and they have some upcoming HTML5 presos I want to check out. Plus, they have a giant refrigerator-sized circuit-board-filled old-school computer thing that probably belongs in a museum. And a projector + Wii setup.

There's Twitter Sunday Morning, I've been to two of them, and it's been lots of fun. (won raffles & stuff)
There is Joomla Day that I've been wanting to attend but they haven't done it in my area. Makes me think maybe I should organise one.
Brilliant post, thanks for sharing.

hah! how could I forget about barcamp? I went to a day of bar camp boston this weekend... although it was REALLY heavy on the dev side (it was held at MIT so i cant blame them)

Perhaps i'll go again next year and do a session on design!

BarCamps are also a good place to meet fellow devs. They are all over and are usually free. Here's BCPhillyhttp://www.barcampphilly.org/
