But I probably won’t get one just yet… But I AM extremely excited about what this means for the magazine and publishing industry. There’s so much potential with this device to extend and transform the way we consume media. I’m not even sure we know how people will be using the iPad in 6 months time from now. It’s all up to the app developers!
I almost feel like I’ve has first hand access to what this will look like all week…sorta. I’ve been working on an iPad app site for Men’s Health Magazine for the past few days at Brunello, Photoshoping screenshots into iPad photos, sprinkling jQuery here and there and getting the site ready for todays launch. So go check it out while you are at it: http://menshealth.com/ipad.
Now I’m curious what you think of the iPad - regardless of if you will buy it or not. What impact do you think it will have on the publishing industry? On computers in general? On your media consuming habbits (if you are buying one). Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

I don't think it is unfair to say the iPad, and the shifts it forces and creates, will be hugely responsible for saving newspapers (shit, we need to rename these soon) and magazines as we know it.
I'm not looking to grab one right away, but I absolutely see this as the eventual replacement to my printed portfolio.

while i am a Mac user, and absolutely LOVES OSX – I am far from what could be considered an "Apple Fan", I find a lot of their innovations interesting, but as a technology enthusiast and open source supporter, I just can't get excited about the iPad. I am interested however to see what it's release will inspire from other companies, for sure!

I'm the same, I probably wont get one straight away. I say that now anyway. lol. They wont be available in Aus for another few weeks yet (late April). I may change my mind by then, who knows!
Great job on the Mens Health site btw. Well done

Personally, while I find any sort of innovation and its subsequent repercussions really interesting, I think that so much of the driving force behind the iPad is Apple's huge ego and fanboyism, that I can't help but be annoyed at it. That might be unfair to say because Apple probably deserves all that praise for everything they've done, but they're just insufferable sometimes. And I can't think of a single reason anyone would need an iPad aside for "How cool is this!!" (not that that's a bad reason in and of itself…)

I think once you can use it to multitask, it'll be a must have – but as it stands I can't see the value of it (for me personally).
