Its time for question of the week! I’m going to post a short little audio clip asking you a question. Feel free to chime in and let me know what you think! I’d love to get a discussion going on in the comments!

This week we are discussing what you are currently learning: php? jQuery? Typography? Leave a comment and let us know! Share links to your resources for what you are learning.

I’m doing the opposite, I can do the code, trying more to learn Illustrator most. PS – I’ve done some jQuery stuff at learnitscreencasts.net if you are interested.

  2. After several months of heavy tech/design learning (mostly in the web standards arena), I’m now concentrating on networking and business development. Networking is an /essential/ skill that many people don’t actively develop, but really should. If you’re a freelancer or entrepreneur, then the need to network is obvious. But, even if you’re working at an agency, studio, or whatever, your networking skills are essential to advocating your ideas to your coworkers, bosses, and clients. I can’t tell you how frustrated I get when people have good ideas at the office but are totally ineffective at just explaining and advocating them to their team and/or boss.

And networking doesn’t mean being a fake smiley douche bag. It just means advocating and explaining your ideas and your approach. When you get good at that, being creative gets so much easier because there are so fewer roadblocks in your way.

  3. I am currently trying to understand PHP more. I am using http://blog.themeforest.net/page/2/?s=diving+into+php
And I also want to learn more in Illustrator but can’t seem to find any good resources. Then after that I will try and learn some jQuery. (Seems confusing to me.)
But hey, I need learn it though right?

  4. I’m also learning jQuery at the moment. I waffled for a long time about whether to try and learn “real” JavaScript before trying a library. I’m still not great at writing normal JavaScript, but now I at least appreciate the headaches that jQuery is sparing me.

Charles Wyke-Smith wrote a fantastic book for designers who are getting started with PHP called Codin’ For the Web. I highly recommend it.

  5. I’m working on jQuery and PHP myself at the same two spots as you. I can write a bit of jQuery for simple stuff and have the same skills with PHP. I really need to be able to write complex stuff though so that is what I am working on.

  7. WordPress, PHP, design, javascript, the tech stuff about web development like dealing with domains and hosting sites. I think that’s that… long road ahead, huh?
