Amanda: if you do that, the anchor you click twice will end up with only one control handle. Thus limiting control later on. The alt method is much better, I’ve used it as long as I can remember.

Instead of hitting alt, I just click on the second anchor point again and then place the third anchor, then I can curve the second line from there.

No need to change tools or hit a key.

UNBELIEVABLE. how did this not get covered in Illustrator class? Or in any Illustrator book I have ever read? Great tip. I am excited to start using it.
