Great idea for a gallery!
So does the more icons you have suggest you are a better designer and need lots of programs? Or are you just untidy?

ryan says:
it just seems silly to have so many icons on your dock.
a)it devalues it as a quick go-to if you have to spend just as much time sorting through them as it would to find the app in the finder.
b)that’s why they made STACKS! (but Calee, you’re crazy!)
i guess it just depends on what purpose you place on your dock. having a bajillion icons on there makes little sense to me.

Cory O'Brien says:
Love seeing the custom icon sets! It’s also impressive to see how many Macs there are vs PCs. Though I only do the occasional bit of design work, here’s the (rather minimal) dock that I currently use:
http://flickr.com/photos/coryobrien/3036590433/
Quicksilver handles all of my app launching, so I try to keep the dock icons to a minimum.

David Billings says:
This was really fun to see. I’m always curious to have a peek into other creatives’ work spaces.
I heard someone in MacWorld say that “real” mac users turn off the animate feature on the dock right away. I guess I’m a fake Mac user, because I just like watching that thing do the wave. In fact, whenever I’m stuck for an idea or pondering a thought, I’l cruise through it. Feel nice, like a digital version of a yo-yo.
I’ve probably said too much.

Dave says:
I too use Quicksilver for most of my app-launching needs, but as active apps always show up in my Dock, I tend to keep my most-used ones in there anyway. That way I can at least sort them to my liking
.
Great to see so many mac users out there by the way! I guess it’s still true; Most designers use Macs!
My dock currently looks like:

And on my iMac ‘server’, it’s a bit less cramped:

Stephen Tiano says:
If you use the apps in your doc, then, of course, it makes sense to have that many icons there. The point is to be able to get at your mission critical software as quickly as possible when you’re doing paid-for work. Perhaps if you’re just a hobbyist there’s overkill. But time is money, so …

@Daniel : The black bird is Tweetdeck.
Very interesting to see everyones’ dock … It would be nice to know the name of some of the no-so-common apps in some peoples’ docks. Like the Hamburger icon for example… and a bunch other lol
Great post!

Markus Amalthea Magnuson says:
It is madness to launch applications from the Dock, that would take me several seconds with thirty icons to mentally navigate through. I have Finder and the Trashcan in my Dock just because I have to, I would ideally like to turn of the dock completely.
And the real answer is of course Quicksilver; below 1 second launch of any application(s) and/or documents.

Jake H says:
Menachem Krinsky’s dock is an icon set called “blob” by Martin Lexow. You can get it on his site here : http://portfolio.martinlexow.de/2008/10/blob-3-hd-noir/
I use the black one, which is a little nicer i think.
just go back a page or two for the white version.
You need to get/buy the application “Candybar” if you want to change the finder, trashcan and such.

A few custom icons, but I’ve tried to keep it as minimalist as possible. I use Quicksilver to launch apps.

I am using a PC so I was just wondering if anyone has tried RocketDock for Windows XP and their opinion on it?
I know Shawn Kulla and I can’t be the only Windows users reading this (or are we just design “freaks”)?
December 11th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Corinne says:
@Marvin
I’m currently using RocketDock and love it! The dock can be customized to whatever you want it to look like. Of course, if the default styles don’t do it for you, you can download more. You can also download icons as well.
Anyway, thanks for this Niki! I’m a Mac freak on a WindowsXP.
