Hey Niki thanks for posting this. I forgot all about it!

I’m not an angry person. It was written in part for comic value, but it’s also completely serious and true. I believe everything I wrote and I think it’s a terrible move by Apple.

Just think: if I’m one PC user who was thinking about switching to the macbook until they did this, how many other potential new customers did they lose that are just like me? And how many diehard macbook users will not be upgrading from their old version because they want to keep their matte screen?

I can’t agree more. I just bought a previous generation MacBook Pro from MacMall because of the glossy screens on the new model. This is the last chance to get a Mac portable with a matte display for… ever? I hope not. Hopefully Apple receives enough negative feedback from users that they at least bring it back as an option—even (I hate to say it) if it they have to charge us extra for it. To me it’s worth it.

If I had more money, I would buy up every previous generation MacBook Pro I could. I have a hunch that in a few months when they’re no longer available to buy new that they will begin selling for a pretty penny on craigslist and ebay.

What an angry, angry person. I mean, i agree that glossy monitors are a horrible idea, but i have a feeling this letter was written more for its comic value than to actually get a message across.

Anyway, i hope my old PowerBook G4 lasts long enough that when i really need a new machine, i’ll have more options.

That’s a nicely rude letter. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about letters of complaint. This is the wrong way.
Personally I prefer glossy screens, but I think having a choice was the best way to go.

That is hilarious and at the same time I totally identify with it. New iMacs are pretty glossy too and its hard to see if there is a window behind me. . .and there is.

I agree 100%.

When we got our (Windows) laptop, we had to fight our way through a crowd of sales assistants eager to sell us a more expensive one – we got the cheapest and oldest model. Also because it was the only one without the glaring gloss. I decided against trying to explain why.

Now, I get it from all the silly Windows aficionados… but from Steve?

How could he!
