So, the people in charge of the internet (ICANN) decided to add more extensions for domain names. A few of the more recent ones have been .tv, .biz, .info, .mobi and .name which make sense to me. But they are proposing tons of new extensions based on location and other various categories. I can see how this would be a good move on one side, but a bad on the other. How will this affect the general public? Most people have a hard time remembering anything but a .com name. We will see, but this is an interesting development.

What do you guys think about expanding domain extensions?

Chris says:
i don’t think it will take off for a long time. people will still try for the .com first before any other domain.

… for a short time. ‘.com’ makes absolutely no sense in a great number of websites that use it simply because it is the norm. It will be slow to take off, but I think it will be used a lot more when it is shown how much better the internet is with domain names that are actually useful. The net is still young.

it could be good for businesses. nbc could be at .nbc and so on. if the designated a .something for porn it may also make it harder for young kids to stumble across it although easier for teens but it would be easy to filter. I heard they will be going for like 100,000. Maybe you should by .mouse
