Flags as Information Graphics

The estimated time to read this article is 2 minutes

These flags (by Lisbon advertising firm Foote Cone & Belding) are turned into infographics by skewing the proportions and adding a ledgend. Very interesting idea. While these may not be entirely accurate, they sure as hell get the point across. Most of these are in Portuguese so I’m relying on my google-fu to find out what they mean.

USA

Red: In favor of the war in Iraq.
White: Against the war in Iraq.
Blue: Don’t know where Iraq is.

Brazil

Green: people who live on less than 10 dollars a month
Yellow: people who live on less than 100 dollars a month
Blue: people who live on less than 1000 dollars per month
White: (i.e., the stars of the flag) people who live with more than 100,000 dollars per month

China

Red: minors at 14 years old who work
Yellow: minors at 14 years old who study

Colombia

Red: Exportation of bananas
