A throwback to the past: Tamagotchi! A little Japanese digital pet that you hatch and look after (and eventually kill). I was so obsessed with these in middle school!

I also remember way back when I had a computer with Windows 3.1. There was a program that had a little cat named Neko that would run around on screen and follow your mouse.
