Cushy CMS Review

The estimated time to read this article is less than a minute

While working on a client site I was asked, “Will I be able to edit the content of my site?” I had set a goal to design this clients site with a CMS in mind. First I tried messing around with textpattern. After getting it installed (not to difficult) I just kinda gave up easily. Next I tried using WordPress as a CMS. I got frustrated with this as well. Then I stumbled upon Cushy CMS.

All I have to do is enter the FTP info and specify a surrounding div with class=”cushycms” title=”Descriptive Description” and WALLA! Editable regions. I may be a bit naive in the arena of content management systems, but for a simple 6 page site this does the trick! Best of all – its FREE (right now) but I would be willing to pay for this service.

*Update*

Cushy CMS now has a non-branded pro plan. It looks like you can host it on your own site? Its $28 a month…which is a bit steep. Light CMS basic package is only $19 a month…

As Pat the Butter said to Sam the Pan, “Oh damn, that’s hot as hell.”

I’m going to have to check this out!

  2. ooh, thanks for posting this. I know almost nothing about CMS but i’d like to, and this looks like a good place to start.

This morning i was all, “what do i want to listen to? I think Feist…” and then i looked at your home page and you were listening to Feist. WEIRD…

  3. So do you still love CushyCMS? I just found it today. I hooked it up to my personal site and tested it out. Seems to work awesome.

    I googled: cushy cms
And this blog was like 4th. I haven’t read anything bad about it yet.

So let me know if you still love it.

  4. CushyCMS is alright, but it seems a bit flaky. I tried Surreal CMS yesterday and I think I’m going to go with that instead. It has all of Cushy’s features and a file manager, which is what sold me.

  5. @Gary Jenkis — the file manager in Surreal CMS looks really cool. The only other down side to Cushy (and there aren’t many) is that you have to class the editable tags yourself. I have been hearing good things about Shepherd. http://www.shepherdcms.com — they are only allowing beta sign-up right now but it looks really promising.

  6. I have a Pro account at Cushy CMS, but I think I am going to switch to a Surreal CMS pro account. Here is why: Better php compatibility, built in style/color editor, and you can use your own sub.domain.com or edit-content.com. Your choice. Also Surreal seems to be real good about adding new features to the account. Just my 2 cents…
